Please make sure you understood the basics of the cryptocurreny you want to buy as this buying process directly inflicts on your security. There are always multiple ways for buying coins and we do only show you the basics here.
There are two ways you can get hold of Bitcoin or Monero. Either you can mine it, which requires investment of time and money for hardware, or you can buy them. What matters most during the buying process is keeping your anonymity.
When buying the coins you want to spent on the Darknet, please do not use Tor or any VPN that is not in your country. This would directly raise suspicion. Please do not use any fake ID to buy the coins. However, do not reveal too much of your real data on the other side. Use a new email address that is not bound to your name or obfuscate other data as long as you do not break the law with it.
There are multiple ways for buying Monero. We will explain some of them here, but we are sure you can also find other suitable ways by yourself.
You can directly buy Monero using the LocalMonero. The advantage is that you can buy the coins completely anonymous right from the beginning. Several payment methods are offered by private local vendors. These include gift cards, cash deposits at an ATM and also wire transfer.
The only real downside to LocalMonero is it is usually a little more expensive than buying Monero from an exchange, but you are buying it with enhanced anonymity.
You can also buy Monero directly from an exchange. This is probably the cheapest but also the least anonymous method.
There are several exchanges where you can directly buy Monero with wire transfer or credit card. The identification requirements differ between the exchanges. So make sure to reveal as few information as necessary. But make sure to not raise any suspicion due to false information.
To find a suitable Bitcoin exchange please have a look at getmonero.org.
As Monero is not that widely used as Bitcoin, it can be much easier to first buy Bitcoin and then exchange it for Monero. You can buy Bitcoin as explained in the next chapter and use for example morphtoken.com or changenow.io for the exchange.
In this case please make sure to watch out for the exchange rates as they might be pretty high sometimes. Do always transfer the coins after using one of the above services directly to your wallet. Otherwise the service might know for what you have used your coins.
Please keep in mind that some services might work together with law enforcement if they are asked. This is the main reason why you should sent the coins to your private wallet after the exchange.
As Bitcoin is not an anonymous currency be aware to never sent your purchased coins directly to our market if your identity is bound to them. Make sure to tumble your coins before using them as it is described below.
As Bitcoin is most likely the most popular cryptocurrency there are many ways to buy it. See here some examples and have a look at buybitcoinworldwide.com.

If you decide to buy from an ATM, please check for any identification requirements, the exchange rates and for cameras around the ATM.

As said before Bitcoin is not an anonymous cryptocurrency as all transactions are public for everyone. Law enforcement successfully uses analysis techniques to identify the origins of certain transactions and the person behind it.
So if your coins are somehow tied to your identity you should tumble them before using them to protect your anonymity. Simplified this means hundreds of people will throw their amount of coins in one big bucket and they will be mixed. After that, everyone will get back his amount of coins, but this time of course not the same coins as he threw in. For a more detailed explanation see the wikipedia article about cryptocurrency tumblers.
Please be also aware that using some of the coin tumblers may be illegal due to money laundering involvement or missing licenses. For this reason make sure to not send your coins directly from an exchange but from a separate wallet. Use the following path for tumbling your coins:
Bitcoin exchange ▸ Normal wallet (e.g. Electrum on Windows) ▸ Tumbler ▸ Electrum on Tails ▸ Cannazon
